Cutting Legislator Spending

Alaska House District 36

During the current fiscal crisis, legislators should lead by example by cutting their own per diem. I pre-filed legislation to stop irresponsible legislative spending, specifically on expensive meals and hotels. Meal reimbursements during session will be capped at a certain, frugal price per meal ($8 for breakfast and lunch, $12 for dinner), which contrasts sharply with the $40 dinners enjoyed by a few legislators previously. This legislation will also prevent legislators from pocketing per diem while they are at home. Legislators should be held to a high standard of fiscal responsibility.
